Announcing auditions for NCRT’s upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of King Lear. Auditions will be held at NCRT, 300 5th Street, Eureka.
When King Lear surprises his court with news of his sudden retirement, and engages his daughters in a game to determine how his kingdom shall be divided, he sets in motion a tale of betrayal, loss, and redemption. Banishing his youngest daughter, Cordelia, and his oldest friend, Kent, he leaves himself a pawn in a game of power between his eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan.
Meanwhile, Edmund, bastard son of the house of Gloucester, begins his plans to disgrace his elder brother, Edgar, and claim his family’s power for himself. As he betrays brother and father, his ambition will take him to the height of power, and help set the kingdom on course for disaster.
As Cordelia returns at the host of a French military force in the hopes of restoring order, the fate of the houses of Lear and Gloucester will be determined in the blood and tears of mighty rulers and humble champions.
There will be approximately 15 roles available; not all roles will be cast according to indicated gender.
Rehearsals will begin approximately November 13, 2017.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Prepared comedic or dramatic monologues of no more than one minute in length are also welcome.
