The North Coast Repertory Theatre announces open auditions for The Poor of New York, a melodrama, by Dion Boucicault, directed by Alex Service. There are roles for four women aged 18 to 70’s, nine men aged 18 to 70’s, two female singers (any adult age) and two male singers (any adult age). Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Resumes and headshots are welcome. Those wishing to audition as singers should prepare an “old favorite” song (“Home Sweet Home,” “Dixie,” any Stephen Foster, etc.) to perform either a cappella or to recorded accompaniment that the performer provides. (A boom box for CD’s will be provided.) Auditions will take place on Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 19 at 3 p.m.; and Sunday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at NCRT, 300 Fifth Street in Eureka. Production dates are July 24 through August 16, 2014. A copy of the script is available in the Eureka Public Library or on line at https://archive.org/details/poorofnewyorkdra00boucuoft. Please call NCRT at 707-268-0175 if you have any questions.
